St. Maarten – Police announced Monday that 16 year old Marvin Michael Arrindell was fatally wounded in Sunday night’s accident in front of the Amsterdam Shopping Complex. The teen sustained his injuries after being thrown from a scooter that was hit by a car at around 10:30 p.m. Arrindell’s death was pronounced at the scene of the accident at 11:00 p.m. by Dr. Mercuur.

Police also confirmed on Monday that the driver of the car – W.H. – has been arrested and detained for questioning. Officers who went to the scene reported he seemed to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

Police have asked for eye witnesses to step forward and tell them what happened so they can piece together what happened. The information the police have so far is that the collision happened while the car was heading towards Mount William Hill and the scooter was coming off the hillside. The impact from the collision caused the two scooter riders to fall to the ground. That fall caused Arrindell’s fatal injuries and the other rider fractured his leg.
