St. Maarten Parliament sends agenda back to Central Committee

POSTED: 10/4/11 12:34 PM

St. Maarten – The Parliament sent the entire agenda for yesterday afternoon’s meeting back to the Central Committee at the request of several MPs. Roy Marlin (DP) said that the proposals are about fundamental changes and that require more discussion within the community and with stakeholders.

The Parliament approved last week laws on paternity and child support, but it got stuck during the debate about the inheritance law.

Changes to the civil code that will now have to wait until the Central Committee is ready with them concern among others the purchase of immovable property, consumer protection, sole proprietorship, bankruptcy and  rent, insurance and annuity, claims, trust companies, a central registration system for child abuse, marriage in community of property, and the criminal code.
