St. Maarten mourns victims of flight MH17

“This tragedy touches all parts of the kingdom”

GREAT BAY – St. Maarten observed the national day of mourning for the victims of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17. Flag were half-mast at government buildings. The government has opened a condolence register where citizens can express their sympathy with family, friends and loved ones of the victims.

Yesterday the first bodies of the passengers that perished in the place crash arrived back in the Netherlands.

Today, St. Maarten will commemorate the victims with a church service at the Anglican Church on Back Street. The service begins at 12 noon.

Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams opened her remarks at the Council of Ministers press briefing yesterday with a reference to the disaster. “This tragedy touches all parts of the kingdom,’ she said.
