St. Maarten Justice Minister to brief Parliament on law, policy and crime spike

St. Maarten – The Central Committee of Parliament meets with Justice Minister Roland Duncan today concerning several justice matters including the recent spike in crime. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 9th at 2:30 p.m. in the General Assembly Chamber of Parliament in the former Caribbean Palm building.

The first agenda point for the meeting is the advice from the Prosecutor General’s Office to the Minister of Justice regarding a national ordinance to prosecute political authorities.
The second agenda point is to discuss a new policy related to firearms.
As a third agenda point the Chair requested that the Minister provide information on what actions he is taking with reference to the spike in crime. MPs will also have the opportunity to pose questions and make suggestions.
“We really wanted to seize the opportunity of having the Minister present,” President of Parliament Gracita Arrindell said.
