St. Maarten hit by year’s first major outages

St. Maarten – Electricity provider Gebe had to deal with a double whammy of outages on Monday night. It is the first time this year that the company has had a major issue.

The issues began when a transformer house in Waymouth Hill blew out and caused a major outage in that area. The problem was isolated and technicians went to work to get the power back on line. Later that same night a short circuit led to an outage in Belair, Saunders, most ofColeBayand Pelican.

Monday’s outages drew immediate reaction. The moderator of the group: G.E.B.E sucks!! G=GENERATING E=EVERYTHING B=BUT E=ELECTRICITY!! stated, “Haven’t post anything here in a while.. Goes to show they were doing it right until tonight. Well I don’t admire the half a second power surge which cause everything to black out. But I must say whatever you were doing before today keep doing that.. cause ALOT of people liked it including myself.”
