St. Maarten –Governor Eugène Holiday has decided to start consultations regarding the formation of a new government following the results of the island’s first parliamentary elections last Friday. His cabinet said that the Governor has noted that the current government has not yet tendered its resignation.

The purpose of the consultations is to promote a smooth transition towards the appointment and installation of a new Council of Ministers taking into account the results of the elections. The consultations will commence today with the leaders of the 4 political parties – UP, NA, DP, and US – who won seats in Parliament, the Vice-Chairperson of the Advisory Council, the Ombudsman, and the President of Parliament.
