GREAT BAY – Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams, Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Dr. Rhoda Arrindell, Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor and Finance Minister Hiro Shigemoto met Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott Wednesday during a courtesy call at the Government Administration Building. The prime minister presented Walcott with a collection of books published here and Arrindell provided the official welcome. She also conveyed the government’s thanks to Walcott for his attendance at the 9th Annual St. Maarten Book Fair and being the feature speaker for the opening ceremony, which was held in the Chamber of Commerce Building in Spring, Concordia on Thursday night.
“Let me seize this opportunity to welcome Mr. Walcott back home as he can rightfully claim St. Maarten as home because of the family roots he has here,” Arrindell said at the Council of Ministers press briefing.
This year’s Book Fair is themed Freedom Expression and Arrindell has urged the public to attend the various activities at the Book Fair, “which has become, in record time, one of the best in the region.”
