St. Maarten Government goes ahead with screening decree

St. Maarten – The government plans to draft and ratify its own national decree for the screening of ministers.

“We have been executing that process of the screening of ministers on the basis of a decree of the former Netherlands Antilles,” Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams stated on Wednesday.

Now the island will make its own decree and attach a questionnaire, as was done previously, for ministers to fill out.

The prime minister clarified that when she first spoke of screening of ministers, it was for a decree and not a law.

She added that the possibility still exists that St.Maarten could enact legislation on screening.
