St. Maarten Driver’s licenses become more expensive

POSTED: 06/12/12 12:45 PM

St. Maarten – Finance Minister Roland Tuitt revealed in the central Committee yesterday afternoon that the fees for renewing a driver’s license will go up from 300 to 400 guilders. The fee for a first driver’s license will go up from 100 to 200 guilders, and the exam fee will increase five-fold from 100 to 500guilders. The measures will bring in an additional 600,000 guilders in annual revenue.

Several parliamentarians – among them Louie Laveist, Johan Leonard and Sylvia Meyers – opposed the increase for senior citizens and asked the minister to consider mitigation of the new fees for this group.
