POSTED: 10/6/11 12:54 PM

St. Maarten – Monday’s commemoration of the one year anniversary of St. Maarten’s acquisition of country status will focus on honoring the civil service and is themed Constitution Day. The commemoration includes a church service, a special meeting of Parliament, an event for civil servants and State of Affairs address by Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams.
“We will be focusing on the administration, the civil service and the contribution by these persons before 10-10-10 and following 10-10-10, on the building up of St. Maarten. Hopefully a lot of information will be forthcoming on that day and we can stand still during the day of 10-10-11 and look back on where we have come from and set our sights on where we would like to go,” the prime minister said.
The Prime Minister also sees the October 14th symposium being organized by the High Councils of State as part of the commemoration. The theme of that event is “Checks and Balances in a Democracy and the Role of High Councils of State.”
