St. Maarten – The La Savanna cricket team and the B&C Beverage Spartans have both advanced to the finals in their respective divisions after winning their semi final matches by huge margins when action in the RBTT Cup resumed over the weekend.

In the first semi final game played last Saturday in the B division, after batting first and scoring 286 runs, the La Savanna CC defeated the KFC Twisters by 185 runs and 4 balls to spare. They emphasize the crushing defeat, the eventual winners only lost two wickets in the process, but they had already settled in.

Lerry Baptist, was first to be bowled by Daniel Doram on 72 with the score on 139 and Lionel Ritchie struck 62 before he was caught by Damien Williams, off the bowling from Daniel Doram on 62. Romain Doodnauth in his best performance for the year struck an unbeaten 82 which came in 79 minutes, facing 56 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes and Mohit Hingorani demonstrated that he was not only an aspiring wicketkeeper but also a top order batsmen to finish on 41, which came after 70 minutes from 42 balls and included three boundaries. Hingorani was awarded the man of the match in that game after taking five catches behind the wicket.

In reply, the Twisters were only able to reach 101 for 8 after 18.2 overs. With the exception of Keith Carty who was caught behind the wicket, off the bowling from Baptist, the captain on 27, Kenroy David, who was caught by Baptist from the bowling of Mirnal Whada on 29 and Kacey Carty who was caught by Whada, off the bowling from Doodnauth on 16, none of the other batsmen got respectable figures and the La Savanna team romped home to a convincing victory. Bowling for the winning team, Whada had 3 for 25 and K Carty had 2 for 45, for the Twisters, Daniel Doram had 2 for 39.

In the second semi final match played in the A division yesterday, the B&C Beverage Spartans denied the St Lucian Electec a chance to advance when they won by 4 wickets. The Lucians, winning the toss and batting first reached 146 all out after 44.4 overs.

That not so impressive total which was spiked with 6 fours and a six saw only 5 batsmen getting into double figures and it was not until the score had reached 49 that the B&C Spartans Beverage were able to get a break through with the wicket of Peter Edwards, bowled by David on 16.

The second wicket fell shortly after when Damien Beckford was out LBW off the bowling from Jean Rene Belizar on 30 and wicket number three fell shortly after when Arif Khan was caught by Darrell Doram, off the bowling from Belizar on 01.

With three batsmen back in the pavilion, the Lucians needed to recover and the score was pushed to 71 before the fall of the 4th wicket. Elias Aristhee, who batted for 36 minutes facing 27 balls was bowled by Doram on 11.

From that point on in the game, the remaining wickets fell at regular intervals. Garson Alexander was run out by Greg Ritchie on 14, with score on 107. Daniel Doran was out LBW off the bowling from Damien Williams on 01, with the score on 111, Presley Arnaud was bowled by Belizar on 21, score on 125, Terry James was run out by Bevon Williams for no score, Calimbe Williams was out LBW off the bowling from Belizar and Kamani Kames was the not out batsman on 5.

Chasing 147 to win, was not exactly a walk in the park for the Spartans after losing the first wicket on 39 when Gregorio Ritchie was run out by Aristhee on 28 in the 6th over and  Akeem Charles was the next to go, caught by Arnaud from the bowling of Doram on 18, with the score on 81.

After an addition of one run on the board, the Spartans were set back after K Carty was run out by Edwards , off the bowling from Doram on 27 and Sheldon Le Blanc was caught by Beckford off the bowling from Doran on 12, with the score on 84.

But after the fall of Williams, caught by Beckford, the keeper  from the bowling of Darrell Doram on 12 and D Doram, caught by James, off the bowling from Doram for no score, it was Belizar who batted responsibly and remained not out  13 along with K David, the captain who was also not out on 38.

And the Spartans to won by 4 wickets and 22.3 overs to spare. They will now await the winner of the Nagico/Winair Conquers game for the tournament decider. Belizar was  awarded the man of the match after picking up 5 for 27. D Doram had 4 for 33 and S Le Blanc had 4 for 30.
