St. Maarten – After leading by one goal to nil at half time against the Wanderers, the Emile Photo U-16 team went onto score six additional goals in the finals of the Futsal tournament which was sponsored jointly by Cost U Less and Greenhouse.

There was a high degree of entertainment among the eight teams which was divided into two pools going down to the finals. In the first semi final match, the Wanderers edged the USA Latin team by three goals to two and qualified for the finals.

In the second semi final game, Emile Photo and Shields United played to a nil all draw at the end of the regulation time, the Emile Photo team won by way of penalty and advanced. In goal for Emile Photo was Raymond Frederick and in goal for the Wanderers was Indy Brooks.

A direct shot to goal by Brian Clair, from the Wanderers team must have sharpened the defenses of the Emile Photo defense. A 4th minute goal by Denzil Lesi and Emile Photo surged ahead by a narrow margin and at that stage of the game, Emile Photo were by far the better team with more ball control.

With less than five minutes remaining in the first half Brooks, the keeper for the Wanderers came under pressure.  Twice the ball was struck by separate players hitting the left and right side uprights leaving him baffled.

A good effort to score by Clair caused Frederick to fall backwards, the level of resilience was there, but they lacked the ability to penetrate the defense and at half time, Emile Photo was still enjoying a narrow lead.

Going into the second half, all that Emile Photo needed to do was to extend the goal lead and the Wanderers had to equalize before even thinking about taking the lead. But seconds after the game resumed, Steven Stacylee scored and Emile Photo went ahead by 2.

Two minutes after Shevan Connor scored for Emile Photo and the gap was widening. When Michael Santana scored goal number 5, it was just a matter of time before his team emerged as the champions, the writing was on the wall.

Seconds after his first goal, he scored again and that signaled a point of no return for the Wanderers. Fredericks, the keeper for Emile Photo was replaced by Connor.  “He did a good job in the goal, so I wanted him to get a feel playing outside,” said Steven Emile, the team coach.

The Wanderers came close to scoring in the 25th minute, but with limited time on the clock and fewer options, they were facing certain defeat, they  lacked aggression. Frederick was able to score a goal of his own after several tries with just 45 seconds remaining and they went onto win by 7 to nil

The MVP of the tournament went to Stacylee , Frederick was awarded the best keeper trophy and Lakeem Gumbs, from the Wanderers was awarded the top scorer trophy with six goals.
