St. Maarten – Like a chip off the not so old block, Jaylen Constance rose to the occasion on the pitcher’s mound and batted 3-4 to lead the Mac school to a convincing victory in the final game of the RBC/RBTT tournament last Saturday.

So consistent was the Mac team, that they scored two runs in the 1st, four in the 2nd, three in the 3rd and five in the 4th inning. Constance also won the award as the winning pitcher in that game, but the victory could only be attributed to an overall team effort which helped them to win by 11 runs to three.

The best batters lineup included Daniel Victor, Deon Baron, Jeantea Jeffrey, Jeuly Gumbs, Anthony Marlin and Troy Victor who batted 2 for 4. In the third place playoff, the Ruby Labega team defeated the Christian Hillside team by 8 to nil. Andry Millett was the winning pitcher and Rene Gonzales was the player that was credited for the save.  The best batters were Davino Charles and Andry Millett.

In the secondary schools battle which took place last Friday, another Constance, this time, Jamal emerged as the winning pitcher and one of the best batters when the MPC Braves defeated the ST Maarten Academy PSVE by 5 runs to 1.

The save of the game was credited to Denzel Brooks, the other best batter was Alejo Blanco and Jamal Maccow. The MPC Braves team scored 3 runs in the 1st and 2 in the 2nd to win comfortably. The prize for the 3rd place went to the Mixed schools.

At the conclusion of the tournament which was witnessed by scores of family members and friends of the various players along with school teachers. Wayne Kowlessar, managing director at RBC/RBTT was on hand to present the trophies and medals to the victorious teams. By this time next year, those participants would have developed tremendously, but for now, they will serve to be an inspiration for the younger players on the island.

The St. Maarten Little League has extended special thank you the RBC/RBTT bank for their continued support for the school tournament. Thanks also went out to the participating schools and their coaches as well as families and friends. The tournament will take place the latter part of this year again.
