St. Maarten – Director of Sales at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Casino Bernard Hunt has called the just concluded Caribbean Market Place in the Bahamas “very positive.” The resort’s delegation briefed 22 buyers on the new developments on St. Maarten and particular about their product. The new initiatives were used to re-negotiate contracts.
Hunt said St. Maarten’s good product and the air service from Europe, the United States and South America gave St. Maarten an advantage over its regional competitors in the talks.
“This gives us the edge above the other destinations and what sells is the product and the service visitors receive when they come to the destination,” Hunt said.
Later he’d add, “Sonesta Maho Resort has been very fortunate because of the time share which affects the availability of rooms and keeps the airlines coming. One of the key features for Sonesta Maho is the all inclusive, which was also one of the initiatives we took to Caribbean Market Place. We’ve switched from a general meal plan to an all inclusive plan in full. This means we are able to offer to the same type of accommodations and the type of service of an all inclusive that one would see in the Dominican Republic or Jamaica.”
Hunt also pointed out that regional hoteliers are offering more and more specials to attract visitors and opined that islands that have cut back on their tourism budgets will “see the results.”
