ANSE MARCEL, St. Martin – Some 230 wholesalers representing the United States, South American and Caribbean markets attended the SMART trade show held the Radisson Blu Resort, Marina, and Spa, from Wednesday to Friday. What was noteworthy was that the smaller islands such as Antigua and Nevis used the trade show as a spring board to promote their destination to the fullest, said Director of the French Tourism office, Sylvia John.

“This is the first time that so many delegates attended the event in the history of SMART and they had an opportunity to network with the different wholesalers,” she said. From the South American market alone there were some 43 delegates who attended which shows a greater interest for the island from the South Americans.

The sessions were in some cases very intense and all reports from the United States market are that the number of visitors to the island has increased over the last quarter and the interest of visitors in the island is very high.

During the show the wholesalers had an opportunity to visit several properties for site inspections has been to the maximum. “This was a good showing by wholesalers, suppliers, and media operators who came to the island for the first time,” she said.

She was delighted with the turnout with some 120 booths with suppliers at the SMART trade show and concluded that it was the best trade show after 13 years. The closing of the event was held at the Sonesta Great Bay Resort and Casino on Thursday evening.
