St. Maarten – Persons making their way to the St. Maarten Medical, the St. Maarten Laboratory services or the Mental Health Foundation will be able to access transportation at the intersection of the Welgelegen Road at the vicinity of the Teke Teke Bar and Restaurant.  This Medical Shuttle Service will only cost commuters one dollar to reach as far as the St. Maarten Medical Center and the Lab across from it, said Managing Director of Tucks Pro N.V., Peter John Gittins.

He explained that the cost of the shuttle service is in its experimental stage but will be available as of today from 6 am to 8 pm. The persons will be able to catch the shuttle that will rotate every 15 minutes from the Teke Teke Bar to the St. Maarten Medical Center.

Presently persons visiting the St. Maarten Medical Center and the St. Maarten Laboratory Services usually walk the distance, or hitch a ride by passing vehicles, since there is no bus service in that area. Tucks Pro NV plans to eliminate this with their affordable shuttle service at the most affordable price for the service.

All the drivers at Tucks Pro NV are First Responders who are equipped with their medical gear and will be able to administer basic medical care to any patient who are on the shuttle service.  During the peak hours where the demand becomes more necessary they plan to run the shuttle more often so that patients and persons visiting the medical institutions are able to get their easier and faster.

It is the intention of the company to offer the services to the local health care providers but this will be done after a three month evaluation and they have collected the necessary data to approach the care providers, Gittins said.

Minister of Health Cornelius De Weever said that this was one of the projects that the government was looking at and as a result they have applauded the management of Tucks Pro N.V for their initiative for the service to St. Maarten.
