SHTA opens nomination for Crystal Pineapple AwardsPOSTED: 08/21/15 12:41 PM
St. Maarten – The 10th Annual Crystal Pineapple Awards, organized by the St. Maarten Hospitality & Trade Association, officially opened its nomination period on Monday. This year’s edition will be very special as the SHTA will be celebrating a double anniversary; The 10 year anniversary of the award ceremony and the 45th anniversary of the Association. The award ceremony is scheduled for Friday November 20.
Crystal Pineapple Awards is the only event on the island that recognizes hospitality and trade personnel, organizations and associations, for their contribution towards the tourism industry, the island’s main economic pillar. The industry, directly and indirectly employs 87% of the workforce on the island.
“With this special edition the SHTA will be pulling out all the stops to highlight those persons within the industry who deserve to be honored. The media marketing campaign will be expanded to provide the community with ample opportunity to nominate and vote for their candidates,” the SHTA said in a press release.
The public is requested to nominate candidates in various categories. The categories are evaluated and adjusted each year to reflect the innovations in the industries. The categories Best Customer Service Representative, Hospitality Manager of the Year and Entertainer of the Year are new this year.
“There are so many great people within our industry. They should be recognized and highlighted. It’s about appreciating people and hopefully inspiring others to do their best no matter the position. We all play our part in maintaining our tourism industry” said SHTA Executive Director Anenda Zaandam.
The following categories are open for nominations.
Accommodations division: Employee, Supervisor, Department Manager, Timeshare Sales Person and Rookie of the Year.
Timeshare: Outstanding performance in Sales.
Restaurant division: Employee, Supervisor/Manager, Restaurateur, Chef, Bartender and Rookie of the Year.
Trade: Employee, Supervisor, Manager and Rookie of the Year in the Trade Division;
Special awards: Outstanding Community Service Achievement. Best Customer Service Rep, Hospitality Manager of the Year, Entertainer of the Year.
The organizing committee will use technological innovations in its marketing, nomination and voting system and the event itself.
The nomination period closes on Monday September 14. The voting period begins shortly after that date.
