GREAT BAY – The St. Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association (SHTA) met on Tuesday August 24 with José Sommers and Erwin Wolthuis, President and Vice-President of the Foresee Foundation regarding the Digikidz@St.Maarten project; a comprehensive ICT project for elementary schools, including hardware with laptops/tablets, wired and wireless network, and professional development for staff, for those schools that are eager to incorporate these innovative learning techniques.

“When we learned about the projects that the Windsong International Foundation has sponsored worldwide and in particular on Anguilla, as well as the possibility of such a project being considered for the island of St. Maarten, we were eager to find out how we could assist. Bringing 21st century learning through ICT to the children on this island would greatly increase their learning potential, make the process more enjoyable and give them the much needed edge in this day and age of technology,” the SHTA said in a press release.

The SHTA is proud to support the DigiKidz@St.Maarten Project and endorses the Foresee Foundation as a partner in its endeavors to bring such a program to the schools on St. Maarten. “We hope that once the pilot project has been successfully implemented, the program could be expanded to all the primary schools. Education of our future generation is everyone’s concern and SHTA welcomes the opportunity to be able to contribute to such a promising program and to partake in making this innovative learning project a reality,” the SHTA added.

The SHTA is dedicated to bringing quality to all aspects of life on St. Maarten by promoting sustainable economic development for its members in cooperation with the social partners and the creation of a fair marketplace.  For more information please contact the SHTA at 542-0108 or visit the website at
