POSTED: 10/18/13 2:30 PM

St. Maarten – The nominations for the 8th annual Crystal Pineapple Awards are coming to a close on Monday, the St. Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association (SHTA) stated in a press release.

The Pineapple Awards  is the only event which gives businesses the opportunity to put forward those individuals and companies that people think should be recognized for their outstanding performance in the tourism and trade industry: May it be an excellent employee, an outstanding manager or for example, someone who has really contributed towards the industry. The grand event will take place on November 22 at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino.

This year’s nomination category groups are: Accommodations (Hotels, Timeshares and Rentals) with 4 subcategories; Restaurants with 3 subcategories; and Community Services. Individuals, who have been nominated in previous years, can be nominated again. With tourism being the main economic pillar of St. Maarten, every business on our island, directly or indirectly, contributes to the industry. As such we encourage nominations from all businesses on St. Maarten. So do not miss the chance to submit nominations.  The submission of nominations can be done as follows: Go to www.shta.com, select ‘Crystal Pineapple Awards’ from the Events Tab, click on link to see the Nomination Categories, download and fill in the nomination form and send the filled out nomination form to info@shta.com

Nominations and photos of the nominees should be sent by fax to the SHTA office at 542-0107 or by email at info@shta.com. Please feel free to send in nominations for more than one category. Once the nominations have been received and they pass the initial screening, three to five candidates per subcategory will be presented to the general public for voting. The Organizing Committee is appealing to the community of St. Maarten to nominate their candidate before it is too late. “This is the opportunity to recognize an outstanding employee, supervisor, salesperson or manager would not be acknowledged for their contribution towards our tourism industry. Therefore we urge the community to not let the deadline pass without submitting their candidates”, said the SHTA.

The SHTA, the largest business representative on the island, is dedicated to bringing quality to all aspects of life on St. Maarten by promoting sustainable economic development for its members in cooperation with the social partners and the creation of a fair marketplace. For more information, please contact the SHTA office: 542-0108, e-mail or visit the website www.shta.com.
