Sexual abuse case heads for conditional sentence

St. Maarten – The prosecution asked a 6-month conditional prison sentence and 140 hours of community service against Juan Frederic Junior S. yesterday for sexual abusing several girls below the age of consent. The court will pronounce its sentence on October 22.

The defendant denied that he had inappropriately touched the girls, while one of them told investigators that he had promised to fix her residency papers if she had sex with him. After one incident, the defendant had sent a text message to the girl’s mother saying he had messed up and he apologized.

The defendant’s attorney, Shaira Bommel, asked the court to acquit her client. “There are no independent sources for verification of the information. It does not exist,” she said.
