Scrabble and chess showdown

St. Maarten – An initiative of the Play to Learn Foundation, St. Maarten Scrabble and Chess Club (SSCC) held its end-of-the-year Scrabble and Chess Showdown at the John Larmonie Center on Saturday. From left, above: Scrabble winners Lawrence Adams (2nd place – 9-12 division), Ian Arrindell (1st place – 9-12 division), Nishoba Ireland (2nd place – 13-16 division) and Rachelle Reid (1st place – 13-16 division). From left, below: Chess champion Ryan Fong and his little sister Victoria Fong, who was Ryan’s opponent in the final round. All winners took home gift certificates from Van Dorp. Sessions will resume at the John Larmonie Center on Saturday, January 7, 2012, with a yearly registration fee of $40 for one child, $30 each for two siblings and $25 each for three siblings.
