Scotiabank supports Spelling Bee

St. Maarten – Scotiabank St Maarten, through its Bright Future Program, has willingly agreed to be one of the two platinum sponsors of the Regional Haliborange – Rotary/Rotaract Spelling Bee competition to be held in St Maarten in October. SOL is the other platinum sponsor of the local event.

The competition is a first for St Maarten and the winner will be entered into the fourth annual regional Haliborange – Rotary/Rotaract Spelling Bee in St Kitts on November 12, 2011. The participating countries in the regional finals are Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and St. Maarten – which is participating for the first time this year.

All primary public and private schools on Dutch St Maarten are invited to participate in the Spelling Bee by entering a maximum of three students per school. Participants must be between the ages of 9 and 10 years old.

Other Scotiabank Branches in the Caribbean have already been involved in this Competition which has been held since 2008.

“As soon as we approached Scotiabank St Maarten, they were ecstatic with the idea of being a part of the local event,” President of the Rotary Club of St Maarten-Mid Isle Ramesh Manek said.

The Scotiabank Bright Future Program focuses primarily on children and children’s causes. Through the Bright Future Program, Scotiabank’s charitable efforts are aimed at growing and strengthening the positive impact of various initiatives in the communities and on the lives of youth in St Maarten and internationally.
