St. Maarten – Scotiabank has continued to be a supporter of the Aids Foundation with a successful weekend testing day and a $5,000 donation, solidifying a 7-year joint fundraising relationship.

At the testing day last Saturday, 173 people, 83 men and 90 women, were tested of which 28 percent first were timers. “Scotiabank’s partnership has been absolutely critical to the running of our programs. For example, they lend us their bank premises to hold free and confidential HIV testing’s several times a year and their staffs selflessly gives their time in volunteering,” President of the Aids Foundation, dr. Gerard van Osch said.

The testing event featured prize drawings for people that completed the tests, with 5 lucky couples winning gift cards to Caribbean Gems, and others claiming prizes from local businesses, such as Taloula Mango, Hard Rock Cafe, Senses, Gemsland and OM Jewelers.

Caribbean Gems also donated 3 prizes of pendants and earrings. The bank’s parking lot was used for a mini-performance from Circo Magik, the youth circus theatre group, who helped draw a crowd for the HIV testing with aerial performers dangling from a crane lent by Gebe. “It was a day that showcased how different organizations and businesses can come together to raise awareness for HIV and encourage testing”, Van Osch continued.

“Each year, Scotiabank joins the Aids Foundation for the Stronger Together/ Red Ribbon campaign, and this year is no different,” new country head for Scotiabank, Raymond Green said. “We are committed to the cause of eradicating new HIV infections on St. Maarten and continue to fully support the foundation, which has been increasingly active in HIV programs for both prevention and care/treatment.”
