St. Maarten – Scotia Bank’s Country Manager Elie Bendaly handed over a $1, 000 donation to the Safe Haven foundation on Thursday at the bank’s Back Street location. The monetary donation was just one of the institution’s ways of giving back to the community.

“I am sure that you will put it to good use and I want to congratulate Safe Haven for doing a great job in raising awareness in St. Maarten on domestic violence,” Bendaly said.

President of the Safe Haven Foundation Oldine Bryson-Pantophlet graciously accepted the donation saying “We really appreciate you giving us this donation and the support that your entire staff has given us.”

Bryson-Pantophlet said that her organization is not mainly focused on garnering financial support but raising awareness about all forms of spousal abuse.

“Seeing that our work is being appreciated and acknowledged is very important to us.”

She expressed the hope that a mutually beneficial relationship between the two organizations would be forthcoming in the near future.

“We really want to continue this cooperation where we can have sessions with your staff.”

Scotia Bank gives back part of its annual proceeds to health, sports, education and culture initiatives, among other areas and has been lauded by many social organizations for consistently presenting itself as a responsible corporate citizen.
