St. Maarten – Governor Eugene Holiday and President of Parliament drs. Rodolphe Samuel, expressed their gratitude to the Queen and their confidence in the future King Willem-Alexander in a press release yesterday.

“Her Majesty Queen Beatrix’s declaration that she will abdicate in favor of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander on April 30 next made a great impression. As her representative in our young country I express my highest appreciation to Queen Beatrix for the exceptional way in which she gave content to the Kingship throughout the Kingdom. Through her wisdom, strength and profound interest in everyone she came into contact with, she nurtured and embodied a special bond with the people, as evidence during her most recent visit to Sint Maarten in November 2011. Having listened to her declaration I feel assured of her continued involvement for the people and at the same time look forward with confidence to welcoming the Crown Prince Willem-Alexander as future King and princes Maxima as future Queen,” Governor Eugene Holiday stated.

President of Parliament drs. Rodolphe Samuel thanked the Queen for her service for over three decades to the people.

“Her Majesty will be remembered by the people of St. Maarten for her dedication and care for the Dutch Caribbean during her reign, and also as one of the Europe’s longest-serving monarchs. Country St. Maarten will welcome, as it has always done, members of the royal family, and in this case the new King and Queen, a new generation of royalty who will reign over the Kingdom. We are ecstatic to welcome them, and on April 30, the nation will be following the ceremony as Queen Beatrix eldest son Prince Willem-Alexander will ascend to the throne,” President of Parliament Rodolphe Samuel said.
