POSTED: 12/3/14 8:04 PM

St. Maarten – The Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle recently contributed $ 3,127.50 to the Rotary Foundation for the Eradication of Polio, one of the club’s International Service programs.

This was the result of two months of events and fund raisers including the Polio Walkathon that received very good community support.

This amount triples to $ 9,382.50 with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Match, which in turn helps to immunize more than 7800 children of the world, because every dollar Rotary raises for Polio, the Gates Foundation will match it with $ 2.00 thus making it $ 3.00 total.

The Rotary District 7020 coordinator for “World’s Greatest Meal to End Polio”, Rotarian Ramesh Manek said “the St. Maarten community should be proud of this achievement as being a small country we have made a good contribution in helping to eradicate this terrible disease. We hope that we continue to get this support from the entire community till this disease is fully eradicated from the World.”

The target date for complete eradication is end of 2018 and Bill Gates will continue the match till then. For more information on this please contact Rotary Club of St Maarten Mid Isle at
