Rotary donates to Gamali Benjamin FoundationPOSTED: 03/13/16 7:23 PM
St. Maarten News – The Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle presented a check to Vice President Paul Ellinger and treasurer Marinka Gumbs of the Gamali Benjamin Foundation. Police Officer Gamali Benjamin was the first officer to be fatally shot in the line of duty on St. Maarten, on august 5, 2015. There is no insurance provided for police officers which prompted the setup of the foundation in honor and memory of the fallen officer.
The Foundation’s objectives include rendering assistance in different forms to male and female police officers critically injured while on duty: providing therapeutic and rehabilitating assistance to eligible recipients and providing educational assistance to children of victims. The first recipient will be Officer Benjamin’s’ young son; the foundation will help in providing him with a sound education.
