St. Maarten – The Rotary Club Mid Isle presented the St. Maarten Diabetes Foundation (SDF) with a donation of $1,500 for the purchasing of various testing materials. With this donation the foundation can continue their diabetes awareness efforts.

Rotary President Jon Hart presented the check to SDF President Charlotte Peterson, during the Rotary Club’s Valentines Dinner last Tuesday.

This year Diabetes Foundation is celebrating their 15th anniversary.

Also present was long time member Amanda Wever, who together with Charlotte Peterson are driving force behind the success of the foundation. Hart commended the SDF members for their dedication to the community of St. Maarten. “It takes great effort to setup almost every Saturday to test people for free. Diabetes is a great concern for people, not only on the island, but also the whole Caribbean. Through the efforts of the Diabetes Foundation, a lot less people are having this disease today,” President of the Rotary Jon Hart said.

The SDF also started free glucose testing, which added to their expenses.
