President of the Rotary Club of St. Maarten Rebecca Low presents Rotarian Henna Budhrani with the Rotarian of the Year Award during Saturday’s change of board ceremony at the Westin Dawn Beach Resort & Spa, while Budhrani’s daughter looks on.

St. Maarten – Peace through service is the international theme of the 2012 – 2013 Rotary year that Rotary Club of St. Maarten will give content to in its local activities. The activities will be led by Elie Bendaly – Country Manager of Scotia Bank – who begins leading the club when the new Rotary year starts on July 1.

The revelation of the theme is part of a release summing up the club’s change of board ceremony on June 9. On that evening Rebecca Low, who will shortly be Immediate Past President, symbolically handed over leadership to Bendaly. The duo will be joined by Secretary/President Elect Maria Buncamper, Treasurer Frederick Fleming, Aadu Abel, Pierre Decelles, Valda Hazel Woodly, Henna Budhrani, Fred van de Peijl, Jeff Sochrin, Deepak (Danny) Ramchandani, Oliver van de Gevel, Franklyn Maynard and Robert Judd.

Heather Mercuur of Love for Kids Foundation and Geoff Heilman of Chesterfields were named Paul Harris Fellows during the June 9th ceremony. Henna Budhrani was also presented with the Rotarian of the year award. The club also celebrated being awarded the Platinum District Governor Award at the district conference that was recently held in Haiti.

The club has also announced that the nearly $23, 000 raised during their successful third annual fundraiser on Oasis of the Seas – the world’s largest cruise ship – will be used to finance projects that will benefit children with special needs.

“Once again, RCCL and Oasis of the Seas have shown they are true partners in corporate social responsibility.  They continue to graciously donate all their services for the event and have been instrumental in Rotary help the children of St. Maarten,” Low stated.
