Roorda files objection against dismissal

POSTED: 04/5/11 11:59 AM

St. Maarten – Bas Roorda has filed an objection against his dismissal as head of the finance department. “I want to go back to work,” he told this newspaper yesterday.

The Council of Ministers fired Roorda last week for “violating his oath of secrecy,” without further elaboration. “There is nothing concrete in the letter,” Roorda said, “So I do not know what the reasons for dismissal exactly are.”

Roorda said that he does not want to “put pressure on the process” by making statements in the media, and declined to comment further.

He did say however that he has hired Maarten le Poole of HBN Law as his attorney.
