ROGERS COMPETES IN KING OF KINGS “I intend to give it my best”

St. Maarten – When Ruminni “The Protégé” Rogers leaves to compete in the Leeward Islands King of Kings Calypso competition, he will not only be seeking to win the prestigious title, he will also be looking to follow in the footsteps of Leroy “King Beau Beau” Brooks, the only St Maartener that has ever won that title.

The competition, which will take place in Anguilla at the Lancer Bowl on August 9from 8 pm, will feature calypso monarchs from Antigua, St Croix, Montserrat, St Thomas, St Kitts, and the host country. The participants will face off in two rounds of lyrical battle.

“Well as always, I am ready to do my best and leave my heart on the stage, I think my chances are as great as I can make them,” Rogers said. By extension, Rogers will also be looking to do what The Mighty Dow, Fish da Mega Boss, and Kaiso Brat have failed to accomplish at that level.

“I have been vying for that top spot since I began to compete in 2011, but I came up short in the local competition. Now that I have been crowned finally, I have earned the spot to represent St Maarten and I intend to give it my best,” he said.

With regards to the songs he will be singing at that competition, Rogers said that they are still in the process of being composed. “I am not going to speak about that now, the element of surprise is my best weapon. But when the time gets closer, I will reveal what I will be singing,” he pointed out.
