Road to Hillside’s campus opens today

St. Maarten – The road that leads to the newly constructed Asha Stephens Campus of the Hillside Christian Schools in Cay Hill should be officially handed over by the representatives of the Public Works Department today. Hillside Christian Schools founder Asha Stephens made the announcement yesterday after construction work in the area was delayed by more than three months. The opening of this road will provide easier access to the school for teachers and for parents who take their children to school by car.
The school opened at the end of August when the access road was not ready yet. Parents were forced walk their children through the construction zone or drop them off at a produce stall on the Welgelegen Road after which they would be shuttled via school buses up to the Western side of the school campus.
This method was said to be “very costly” since the drivers had to make numerous trips to the school that houses more than 500 students.
Parents too were peeved by the situation and when Today visited the area yesterday many of them said they were relieved to find that the still unnamed access road would now be opened to improve access to the school. The parents said that there worst fears will now be abated since a construction zone is always a life threatening environment for children to be near.
Meanwhile, beautification work around the school has also been completed and areas for parking have been clearly marked. This means that teachers will no longer have to park at an old tennis court opposite the St. Maarten Medical Centre and make the journey to the school on foot.
