St. Maarten – Denicio Richardson confirmed through a statement issued by his attorney mr. Wim van Sambeek yesterday that he has been suspended as director of PSS, the postal services of St. Maarten.

“My client emphasizes that he holds the opinion that he at all times has acted within his authorities and responsibilities as statutory director of PSS. In the interest of PSS and its dedicated staff, my client will not comment on the lightly taken measure of suspension. My client will use all available legal means to have the suspension rectified or lifted as soon as possible,” van Sambeek stated.

He referred to an article on a local web site. This stated on December 31 that Richardson had overstepped his authority by signing a check for 8,000 guilders to buy computers for the post office and that this check needed  a signature from a member of the supervisory board.

The article also suggested that parliamentarians got involved in an effort to have the suspension lifted, but the site failed to identify them.
