Richards to court over dismissal by NipaPOSTED: 08/12/15 4:47 PM
St. Maarten – The former principal of the National Institute for Professional Achievement (Nipa) Vernon Richards will take Nipa-director Marcella Hazel to court for wrongful dismissal. The case is scheduled to be heard on August 27.
Richards was fired for organizing an open house together with the ministry of education without informing the board. The open house was designed to showcase the school’s progress to the government and the business sector.
The day before the open house director Hazel told Richards to cancel the event.
Teachers sent a letter to the ministry of education advising it on the situation. Following Hazel’s request to fire Richards, Education Minister Rita Bourne-Gumbs appealed to her to withdraw the termination letter.
