Report formateur ready on Friday

St. Maarten – Not all reports are in yet, formateur Wescot-Williams said at yesterday’s press briefing where she alluded to Governor Holiday’s request to form a new government. She expects to present her report to the governor on Friday.

As reported earlier, the candidates for the Wescot-Williams III cabinet are Maarten Hassink (Finance), Dennis Richardson (Justice), Maurice Lake (Vromi), Romain Laville (Economic Affairs), Patricia Lourens (Education) and Cornelius de Weever (Public Health, Social Affairs and Labor).

The screening of Romain Laville remains a question mark. The former faction leader of the United People’s party, who became an Independent MP in 2012 when he brought down the first Wescot-Williams cabinet together with Independents Frans Richardson and Patrick Illidge, has still two complaints hanging over his head: one for threatening MP Jules James, and one for threatening the Mighty Dow, Isidore York. The prosecutor’s office declined to make any statements about the status of the complaints and possible investigation and prosecution of Laville.

If Wescot-Williams presents the above described cabinet, with herself again in the role of Prime Minister, to Governor Holiday on Friday, it will open the way for a return to active politics for UP-leader Theo Heyliger.

Governor Holiday appointed Wescot-Williams as formateur on May 24 and requested that she completes her tasks for the formation of a new government by Friday June 7.
