St. Maarten – Regional and international health officials will begin arriving on the island today for a two-day meeting of the expanded program on immunization that will take place tomorrow and Friday. Participants come from Aruba, Curacao, the BES islands, the Netherlands, the Pan American Health Organization Paho and the Trinidad based Caribbean Epidemiology Centre.
The Collective Preventative Services (CPS) hosts the event at the Sonesta Great Bay Beach Hotel and Casino.

The objectives of the meeting are to discuss how constitutional change has influenced the program and to link plans and activities for more efficient and effective program management.

“We have to be realistic about the many things we want to do. We have limited financial and human resources so we need to synchronize our efforts in many areas. Public Health Minister Cornelius de Weever said yesterday. “I am looking forward to all the representatives of the Kingdom being here and participating, who can then serve as a foundation for us to continue working together in other areas as well.”

The meeting will also cover arrangements to guarantee uniformity in programs, agreements on formal collaboration between the Dutch Caribbean and the Netherlands and the introduction of new vaccines on the islands.
