St. Maarten – Six real estate companies have formed the St. Maarten Real Estate Association with the key goal of having their industry “regulated and professionally guided.” The six current members are Tendal Real Estate N.V, Jennifer’s Vacation Villas, Sunshine Properties, St. Maarten Investments, Antilles Realty and SXM Realty World. The founding President is Walter Kassel, Antonio Pomata is the Secretary and Dieter Schaede is the Treasurer. The organization was incorporated roughly three weeks ago.

“We are very pleased by the great enthusiasm received and the encouraging new members’ participation, in such a short time,” Schaede stated in a release issued Monday night.

More real estate firms are encouraged to join the organization and will be allowed in if they meet the board’s criteria.

Next to ensuring that there is regulation for the industry the association wants to create a Multiple Listing Service (MLS) to give clients a large listing and giving realtors equal opportunity to attract clients. The new association also wants to work with government to establish a brokerage licensing system similar to the ones in Europe and the United States.

“This – the brokerage licensing system – will assure a positive future for our industry and the next generation of realtors. Our task, in the private sector, should be to make sure, that this legal entity is beneficial to all concerned, including the government in terms of tax revenues,” Schaede wrote in his release.

In order to create awareness the association plans to hold seminars on the current laws and regulations that cover the real estate industry, construction and property management.
