GREATBAY – Hollywood and French producers are shooting the pilot of a reality series called This World Fashion Reality. The St. Maarten Tourism Bureau worked to bring the show here in order to expose the island to the world and highlight the local fashion trends.
“The models are coming from different countries and are multi-cultural; that is exactly what St. Maarten is all about. This is a great opportunity to use the fashion industry as a promotional piece for the island,” Director of the St. Maarten Tourism Bureau May Ling Chun said.
The show’s concept is similar to that of Celebrity Apprentice or the Bachelor/Bachelorette. The models will have to do various individual or group projects which include visits to local stores.
“Producing a reality show is fun and interesting and this could make a very good show. It has all the right elements – competition, beautiful women against the backdrop of a beautiful island and a beautiful setting. When all of this is put together and you add a fashion sense to it, ultimately it’s an exciting project,” Hollywood film maker Rich Thorn said.
“The idea of the reality show is for the models to go to the local stores to highlight the fashion on the island just as it was done in Milan, Paris and New York,” Chief Operating Officer Roslyn Rey added.
Ten to 12 episodes will be filmed as part of the total project on a total budget of roughly $200, 000.
