It is time that government brings in an independent external firm to carry out in depth financial investigations in government owned companies and institutions on this island. This should be done now with more haste seeing the statement made by the two board members, who are refusing to resign from the board of the harbor group of companies.
One of the reasons giving by these members for not resigning is because they have to take care of the financial reports of the harbor group of companies for the years 2009, 2010 and 2011. This is a very serious matter. And then you ask the question, what have the other board members done, who were there before these two members were appointed to the board sometime in the beginning of this year. Were they not capable of handling the financial statements of the harbor group of companies? If it means that the present board members of government owned companies and institutions have to resign, to be able to carry out effective financial investigations, then so be it. If government, who represents the people, asks one to resign as a board member of a government owned company or institution, one should do so as a matter of principle. So government the ball is in your hands.
