Reader’s Letter: How serious is our Government

Dear Editor,

I am honestly of the opinion that during meetings of the Council of Ministers of St. Maarten important items are discussed and decisions are made that are in the best interest of this island.
I was very surprised and astonished when listening to a local radio station and heard the prime minister say that the Cabinet decided to cut short a meeting of the Council of Ministers so that the entire cabinet could go to a radio station to congratulate a radio broadcaster because this “good gentleman” said that he was celebrating 50 years in broadcasting.
We are talking here about cutting short a meeting of the Council of Ministers during which very important decisions are made in the interest of this Island and its people. I ask the question. How serious is our government?
I have never heard that the entire Council of Ministers went to the office of a civil servant who served this Island for 40 years and over, to congratulate this civil servant spontaneously.
What is really happening on this Island?

A very concerned citizen,
Todd Peterson
