Reader’s Letter: Brand new year

POSTED: 01/2/13 12:34 PM

On behalf of myself and my family I am wishing a healthy and prosperous year to the entire nation of St. Maarten/St. Martin more than anything else a greater sense of safety in our homes and in our streets.

2012 has come and gone most of us the anticipated fears have not materialized, looking back we worried needlessly. As long as the sun keeps rising in the east and setting in the west there will always be uncertainties and anxieties. There is an old saying “it is better to plan 20 years before something happens than 20 minutes after”, and “the future is never a straight arrow from the past”. Time and circumstances do change. As the rain falls on the just and on the unjust, and it happens to the wise so it happens to the fool, the old Scouts Motto be prepared whenever applied will minimize the effect of adverse changes and enable us to take full advantage of opportunities that present themselves.

Resolutions aside, let us reflect on the successes of 2012, goals achieved, and build on those, what lessons we learnt in areas we fell short, not letting failures dampen our spirits but rather spur us on to greater efforts. As we enter the New Year, individually let us plan our year, setting measurable goals; write down in a prominent place, sharing them with those who desire the best for us and map out the activities to accomplish those goals. It has been proved over and over again “A fool with a plan will beat a genius without a plan every time.” Happy New Year.
