GREAT BAY – RBC/RBTT contributed to the Dow’s Musical Foundation by sponsoring ten children to participate in the steel pan summer workshop that began July 4 and will run until July 22 at the Oranje School. RBC/RBTT has a well-established tradition of supporting the arts in the region. This includes supporting the local culture through many cultural festivals and art programs for the youth.

The classes are in playing techniques, musical theory and the making of the steel pans. The objective of this workshop is to preserve the art form of the steel pan and also give children the opportunity to explore their artistic side and become professional steel pan players or just use their talent for recreational purposes.

The attendance to the workshop is tremendous and the children are very enthusiastic. Some children were playing the steel pan and trying out their new skills and others were attending the theoretical classes to learn more about the different notes. The children are practicing their new skills both inside the classrooms and outside on the school premises.

RBC/RBTT pays particular attention to helping young artists in different art disciplines to develop their talents and progress along their career paths. Wayne Kowlessar, President & Country Head of RBTT, visited the children in the workshop and Isidore “Mighty Dow” York showed him how the steel pan instruments are made.

“RBC/RBTT bank wishes the Dow’s Musical Foundation success with the workshop,” a corporate release stated.
