St. Maarten/PORT OF SPAIN – Ahead of rebranding RBTT’s Dutch Caribbean and Suriname businesses, Suresh Sookoo, Chief Executive Officer, Caribbean Banking, RBC, announced the start of formal operations under the RBC banner in Jamaica on Monday. RBC first entered Jamaica in 1911 and in 2008 it acquired RBTT Financial Group, creating one of the most extensive banking networks in the Caribbean.

The announcement means RBC Royal Bank is replacing RBTT as the retail banking brand. Rebranding of RBTT’s Dutch Caribbean and Suriname operations is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.

“Today marks a significant milestone for our company as we bring the history and heritage of RBTT and RBC in the Caribbean together for the benefit of our clients,” Sookoo commented at a formal unveiling event attended by ministers of government, longstanding personal and business clients and other specially invited guests from the community.

RBC commenced its regional rebranding on June 6 in Trinidad and Tobago and in the coming months, its operations across the Caribbean from the Eastern Caribbean and Barbados, to the Dutch Caribbean business comprising 22 branches and 89 ATMs  across Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire, Saba, St. Maarten and Suriname, will all adopt the new RBC brand. The existing RBC operations in the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos, Eastern Caribbean and Barbados will also move to the updated brand expression to create one RBC in the Caribbean.

The Bank will continue to focus on integrating its businesses onto a common platform across the Caribbean and enhancing client experience by simplifying the way it does business. The rebranding leverages RBC and RBTT’s more than 100-year heritage in the Caribbean as the bank puts its global and regional strength to work for clients: best-in-class global banking practices and resources with in-depth local knowledge of the region.

“The rebranding signals our confidence in the future and demonstrates the strength, heritage and stability of RBC to all our stakeholders,” Sookoo said.
