RBC donates to senior citizens

GREAT BAYRBC Royal Bank celebrated St. Maarten Day by donating $1,000 to the Come Center for senior citizens. This donation was given to further develop the elderly program which enables them to be part of modern day by developing computer classes in addition to computer classes and activities being organized.

It is because of the multicultural and diverse community that the RBC Royal Bank made this donation to honor and show appreciation to the work of the seniors that built this community. With a strong focus on diversity, as one of the core values of RBC, this donation comes at the right time for the right group. Hanna Lieuw Hie Gonesh from the RBC said: “At RBC we know the power of diversity is unleashed when we respect and value differences. But it’s more than this. We all bring with us diverse perspectives, work experiences, life styles and cultures. As a source and driver of innovation, diversity is a “big idea” in business and in society”.

Hanna Lieuw Hie Gonesh, Area Vice President Personal Banking of RBC, presented the check to Donna Morrison-Wilson, Program Director of the COME Center. The presentation of the check was done at the main branch at Cannegieter in presence of members of the senior citizens program for which the donation will be used. The Senior Citizens In Action as they are affectionately called meets every Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. for a time of fellowship, where they have devotion, play games and trivia, answer quizzes, craft and needle work, dance, exercise and even benefit from health and wellness seminars, individuals in the community comes in from time to time to share

The Come center is a non-profit organization established to provide a holistic, therapeutic and conducive environment, with direct focus on providing care and support to the family, which includes mentorship, counseling, productivity seminars, feeding programs, adult learning, seniors’ fellowship, referral desk and a crisis hotline.

The center is organized in a very personalized and user friendly manner, with a direct focus on the following short and long term programs; assistance to single mothers, functional families, social justice, alleviation of poverty, productivity of our young people, financial stability and honoring of the elderly.
