St. Maarten – Rain Forest Adventures St.Maarten plans to host a town hall meeting on Thursday to get feedback from the public on the proposed development of a part of the Emilio Wilson Estate and also present an artist impression of its Rockland Estate project. The event will be held at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library from 7:45 pm. Chief engineer for the eco-adventure tourism plan, John Dalton said that his company welcomes suggestions on the way the development should go in order to maintain the historical and cultural heritage of the estate.
The company has come under fire from environmental groups in particular for falsely creating the impression that its initiative is environmentally friendly and will only benefit the people of St.Maarten. It has already requested permits from the ministry of VROMI with Deputy Prime Minister Theo Heyliger publicly stating that he supports the project.
Along with the estate owners, the Brookson family, Rainforest Adventures will outline its fivefold plan for the partial development of the estate. It includes restoring existing monuments, utilizing the plantation house as a museum and installing a high wire rise called the “The Flying Dutchman”, that will allow approximately 50 passengers at a time to get an aerial view of the entire estate, Cul-de-Sac basin and the peak of Sentry Hill, from a chairlift.
