St. Maarten – The Department of Disaster Management has advised motorists to exercise caution because rainy conditions that began Tuesday are expected to continue today. People driving in low lying areas should look out for flood waters and people driving near hillsides should look out for possible rock falls.

“Drivers and individuals who do not need to be on the road should remain at home until weather conditions improve,” a release from the Department of Communications stated.

The Fire Department said it will continue to monitor low lying areas and the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure, confirmed taking measures to deal with flooding situations.

The weather forecast predicts that the scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms that began Tuesday could continue until Thursday. The weather synopsis states, “A very moist and unstable air mass will continue to persist across the local region resulting in periods of showers and thunderstorms across the islands and surrounding waters through at least Wednesday. Locally these showers will be heavy and will cause some street flooding.”
