St. Maarten – The Public Prosecutor’s Office has appealed the acquittal of Ester van Kippersluis in the so-called Red Bull-case, Chief Prosecutor mr. Hans Mos told this newspaper yesterday.

The 32-year-old bar manager was arrested on April 30 on suspicion of drunk driving. On May 30 she stood trial accused of driving under the influence, resisting arrest, ill-treating a police officer and causing a ruckus at the police station. Judge mr. Coen Luijks acquitted the 32-year old bar manager of all charges.

The defendant, who left the island shortly after her acquittal, claimed that she had drunk only one vodka-Red Bull and that she had spent the rest of the afternoon drinking Red Bull only.

The prosecution wants to hear a new witness in the case and it also wants to review what exactly happened at the police station.
