Professor Hassell lectures on Saturday evening

St. Maarten(DCOMM) – Professor Trevor Hassell, an adjunct professor of medicine at the University of the West Indies in Barbados, will give a lecture to non-governmental organizations about non-communicable diseases on Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the A.C. Wathey Legislative Hall in Philipsburg..
Non-communicable diseases are heart disease, stroke, cancer, respiratory illness, and diabetes. They result in 36 million deaths per year worldwide.

Professor Hassell is also one of the speakers at the two-day cancer conference that begins tomorrow. He is also an honorary consultant physician and cardiologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados, and chairman of the national commission for chronic non-communicable diseases.

Hassell was recently appointed as Barbados’ special envoy for chronic diseases, and has received many awards including appointment to the Order of Barbados in the Grade of the Gold Crown of Merit in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the medical profession.
During the cancer conference Hassell will address the best practice national program of monitoring and managing cancer registry and guidelines for cancer diagnosis and treatment.
