Procedure closes end of November – Last call for BTA-permits

POSTED: 11/1/12 11:47 AM

St. Maarten – Employers have one month left to renew work permits for employees that hold a Brooks Tower Accord permit, the Immigration and Naturalization Department (IND) stated in a press release issued on behalf of the Ministers of Justice and Labor. Employers must visit the Labor Affairs Department to process the request before the end of November.

The department will handle all BTA work permit requests until Friday, November 30. All payments orders and receipts from Receivers Office (proof of payment for the processing fee) need to be submitted on or before that date.
The IND urges all employers “to take keen note of this deadline, because absolutely no further handling or processing of BTA documents will be entertained passed the deadline.”
The last payment order (invoice) for payment at the Receiver’s Office will be handled on Tuesday, November 27.

The employers of the employees with a BTA-permit (and who therefore were on the island before 2005) who have an employment permit that expired in November 2011, or a payment receipt 2010/2011 and who did not receive their residence permit are urged to go to the Labor Affairs Department to apply.

Employers who have already paid their processing fee for this year in 2011, and who have non-national BTA permit-holders still in their employ do not have to pay the processing fee again. The employer should visit the Labor Affairs Department with the proof of application Employment Permit to initiate the processing of the employment permit.

The Labor Affairs Department only processes work permits on behalf of the employer. Details about the employment permit procedure are available online at on the What’s New page.
