St. Maarten – Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams was among those present at the Royal Funeral Home during the private funeral service for Amador Jones on Saturday morning. Jones was shot to death near the John Cooper/Jose Lake Sr. Ballpark in Cul de Sac Saturday a week ago by an unknown gunman. He was 36.
It turned out to be a truly emotional farewell for Jones who was a member of the Dem Boys Flag Football team and the Dem Boyz Softball team. At the conclusion of the service several people took the opportunity to address the audience.
Amid tears and discomfort from his relatives and friends, six of his closest friends took the casket with his earthly remains from the church to the waiting hearse.
Jones was the son of former Commissioner Elton Jones who is an advisor to the Democratic Party. Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams was among the mourners at the funeral.
Amador Jones made front page news in 2005, for his involvement in the death of 29-year-old Erwin Ceril Williams, who died of a gunshot wound on February 6 of that year. Jones took him from the house on Mount William Hill were the fatal shot was fired to the hospital in Marigot, but he fled when he learned that Williams had died. The police organized a manhunt and released a mug shot of Jones to the local media. He later served 18 months in prison.
